Hammer felt

The hammers create the piano’s timbre. They are often worn out from use, or damaged by dryness and even mites. The complete set must be replaced if it has become very worn. The set must be given to a specialist in piano felting to be re-covered. Hammers must fit snugly with the flanges so that they move along the correct plane and align with the strings.
