The Balleron workshop applied for and gained the French Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label in 2009, awarded by the Institut Supérieur des Métiers (Trades Institute). This heritage label is an initiative of the French Ministry for Economy, Industry and Employment. It sets Maison Balleron apart, recognising its artisanal skills, history and links to important musical heritage. It is proof of the innovation and rare skills that have made the workshop so famous.
Sylvie Fouanon was named an official Expert to the Paris Court of Appeal in 2011. Expertise involves precise assessments, and is much more advanced than a simple commercial appraisal. An impartial, reputable and competent assessment must be carried out of the condition of the instrument, its technical possibilities and the price and appropriateness of any work. Court experts give the Judge a detailed and reasoned report which provides technical input into their deliberations.
